Four senators control fate of smoking ban - 2003-04-06 Four members of the Delaware Senate will decide the fate of a bill that would allow smoking to return to casinos, bars, taprooms and special smoking rooms for residents in nursing homes.
A survey of senators last week showed 10 are opposed to House Bill 15, seven are in favor and four are undecided. The Senate is scheduled to vote Tuesday on the bill, which was approved by the House 21-19 last month.
The outcome is so uncertain that Senate Majority Leader Harris B. McDowell III, D-Wilmington North, said the decision could come down to a tie-breaking vote from Lt. Gov. John C. Carney Jr. Carney said he would vote against the bill. Read the full story at www.delawareonline.com |
