Landmark Vegas Hotel-Casino Closed Down - 2004-01-10
A landmark hotel-casino was closed until further notice Saturday after federal agents shut down the casino floor and seized an approximate $500,000 to pay for unpaid employee benefits.

The front doors were locked and yellow police tape greeted visitors to Binion's Horseshoe Hotel & Casino, a downtown Las Vegas fixture for 52 years and home to the wildly popular World Series of Poker.

"It's the end of an era," said Jim DiGiorgio, an adult film director who was among the guests told to find a new hotel Saturday.

Pataki Won't Meet To Talk Over Casino - 2004-01-10
That's the message Gov. George Pataki has seemingly sent to the Seneca-Cayuga Tribe of Oklahoma, which is attempting to open a $25 million bingo hall in Aurelius.

In mid-November, LeRoy Howard, chief of the Seneca-Cayugas, requested to meet with the governor to commence negotiations for opening a Class III casino, possibly in the Catskills, to settle its share of the Cayuga Indian land claim.

This week, Howard said he recently received a tersely written reply from Pataki's staff.

"They said he doesn't have the time and hopes we understand," Howard said Wednesday.
