More possibilities disscussed for new casino road - 2004-01-10
Two county committees have suggested the county board authorize continuing the joint work with the Stockbridge-Munsee Tribe on the potential development of a safer and more direct highway to the tribe's North Star Casino from Highway 29.

Friday the county's Tribal Affairs and Highway and Parks Maintenance Committees approved a Memorandum of Understanding with the tribe and the towns of Red Springs and Bartelme that all the parties should conduct further study on the feasibility of such a new highway, the costs and how those costs should or could be shared.

D'Iberville Casino Plan Wins Environmental OK - 2004-01-10
An environmental effect statement for the Royal D'Iberville Hotel and Casino has been completed, and the positive results mean a casino may be built in D'Iberville within two years.

The statement, which is over 1,100 pages long and took three years for the Army Corps of Engineers to complete, found that in every case except one, a casino development will have no impact or a minimum adverse impact on the environment. Under the category of social and economic impact, the report found a casino would have beneficial effects.

"This is a vindication for the leaders of D'Iberville that they were doing a right thing in pursuing a casino," said Michael Cavanaugh, an attorney who has represented the city through its efforts to establish a casino.
