NEWS FLASH: Binion's Horseshoe shuts down temporarily - 2004-01-10
Deputy U.S. marshals went into Binion's Horseshoe this evening armed with court orders allowing them to seize cash from the casino. Officials said a judge authorized the seizure to pay off several debts owed by the casino.

Outside the Horseshoe late Friday, a small crowd assembled.

Some people pulled on the locked doors or were turned away by security guards. Others peeked inside the tinted glass trying to figure out what was going on inside.

Developer is likely to balance city, county interests - 2004-01-10
It has been a brief and intense courting season for casino companies wanting to woo voters on selection committees in St. Louis and St. Louis County.

Just two months after the companies submitted their plans, the winners are set to be picked this week.

While no clear favorite has emerged, it appears that Isle of Capri Casinos Inc. is the likely choice.

The company has the advantage because it outbid Pinnacle Entertainment by offering $50 million to buy the bankrupt President Casino on the Admiral in downtown St. Louis.
