LETTERS: Letter writers share views on the casino issue - 2004-01-13
Letters recently received by the editor, which try to create the illusion that opening a casino in Hesperia would lead to the destruction of civilization as we know it, are both amusing and misguided. We have been through “crisis de jour” number one: the Timbisha Shoshone trive doesn’t belong here — to crisis number two: crime of the worst sort will be running rampant throughout the city — to crisis number three: thousands will become hopelessly addicted to gambling, leaving the town a wasteland of jobless, homeless and helpless.
What’s next? The alien invaders will steal our water, our land, and our souls! You will have to excuse me if I’m a bit skeptical of the “sky is falling” mentality at work here by the “Armchair Anthropoligists,” “Hearsay Historians” and “Internet Intellectuals.”
