Slots And Sales Tax - 2004-01-14
The Seneca Nation of Indians has paid the state a portion of its earnings from slot machines at the Seneca Niagara Casino.

Apparently thinking that two wrongs can make a right, a grass-roots Seneca organization incensed at New York State's tax policy last week requested a Seneca court to support the breaking of another agreement. It was a bit of twisted logic that would not have benefited anyone, including the Senecas.

Governor Sebelius Wants State To Build Casino - 2004-01-14
Gov. Kathleen Sebelius will suggest the state get involved in the casino business.

Matthew All, Sebelius' chief counsel, told lawmakers today that the administration will propose expanded gambling with a resort- destination casino close to the Kansas Speedway.

Casinos can exist in Kansas only if they are state-owned and operated or run by American Indian tribes. Currently there are four tribal casinos and no state-owned casinos.
