Casino Boat to bring gambling back to Savannah riverfront - 2004-01-14
A decade after the last casino boats folded on Savannahs River Street, a new operation is set to roll the dice.

Three weeks ago, Savannah City Council approved a liquor license for Millionaires Casino, a 187-foot boat capable of accommodating 450 passengers.

Its operating company, MPH Entertainment LLC, has signed a lease with Merritt Dixon III to tie up at the docks he owns in front of the Hyatt Regency Savannah. Opening is scheduled for March 1.

Sebelius embraces call for state-owned casino - 2004-01-14
Gov. Kathleen Sebelius will propose a state-owned casino close to the Kansas Speedway, but administration spokesmen said the door wasn't closing on negotiations with American Indians or others wanting to develop gambling venues.

"If this is done right, it would be a very big boost" to the economy, Sebelius' chief counsel Matthew All told the Senate Federal and State Affairs Committee on Tuesday.

He said the governor's plan would comply with recommendations from a task force Sebelius appointed last year.
