Alderman: Let's put casino up to a vote - 2004-01-15
At least one Country Club Hills alderman is worried about the plans for a casino on the 454-acre Gatling property along Interstate 80 and east of Interstate 57.

"I'll vote for it, if it's what the people want," said Ald. Willie Smith, 5th Ward. However, he's not certain the residents really want a casino.

Smith said the city should put the issue on a referendum and ask residents whether they actually want a gambling boat in their community.

Closed casino's staff gets support - 2004-01-15
While Binion's Horseshoe's now-unemployed work force waits to hear what the fate of their downtown hotel-casino will be, the Culinary union and the state Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation are joining to provide help and answers to employees.

Questions about who will operate the casino, when it will reopen and how many Binion's employees will be rehired if and when it reopens are among those that will remain unanswered until Harrah's Entertainment completes negotiations with Horseshoe owner Becky Binion Behnen.
