Already swamped with celebrity guests in town for the annual Palms Springs International Film Festival, area casino-goers got a visit from Max Baer Jr., who played Jethro Bodine on the classic TV show "The Beverly Hillbillies."

Baer was in town Tuesday at Fantasy Springs Casino and Trump 29 Casino promoting The Beverly Hillbillies Video Slots, which are the first MegaJackpots television show-themed penny slot machines in California from Reno-based International Game Technology.

Stevens Linked To Proposed Indian Casino In Colorado - 2004-01-15
Supporters of a proposed Indian casino east of Denver have close financial ties to one of the key lawmakers in Congress, Senate Appropriations Chairman Ted Stevens.

One of the lead companies is a tenant of a company
Stevens invested in. Another lead company has retained Stevens' brother-in-law as a lobbyist on Indian gambling issues.

Stevens, R-Alaska, has a great deal of control over the close to $800 billion doled out by Congress every year. As a consequence, he's able to single-handedly push through legislation by attaching it to must-pass spending bills.
