Sides Set To Argue Casino Suit - 2004-01-16
State lawyers have filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit backed by a group of Florence residents who oppose the opening of a new tribal casino in their coastal town. Attorneys for the state argue that the group should have taken a different approach to their case.
Instead of asking for a writ of mandamus, which would force Gov. Ted Kulongoski to void the state-tribal gaming compact, state lawyers say People Against a Casino Town should have requested a judge's decision on whether to invalidate the compact without involving Kulongoski.
