Casino group hits a losing streak - 2004-01-18
The 175-year old Crockford's casino in London's Mayfair has seen many high rollers come and go.

Unfortunately for owner Stanley Leisure, a significant amount of its profits have gone with them. On Thursday, the betting and gaming operator is expected to declare a £5 million decline in interim pre-tax earnings to roughly £20 million.

Much of this was lost at Crockford's to lucky gamblers.

However, Stanley Leisure's other businesses - it has 40 provincial casinos and 600 betting shops - have softened the blow.

Michael Moorer Stops Jose Da Silva - 2004-01-18
Former heavyweight champion Michael Moorer stopped Brazil's Jose Da Silva on Saturday night, with Da Silva not returning for the eighth round.

Moorer, using combinations to gradually wear down Da Silva, was never threatened in the scheduled 10-round bout at the Seminole Casino.

Sensing his opponent was weakened, Moorer caught Da Silva with a solid left to the head late in the seventh. Da Silva retreated to a corner and began favoring his right eye but survived the round.
