Treasure Bay CEO is one to watch - 2004-01-18
For the second consecutive year, someone from the Coast has made Global Gaming Business' list of 25 people to watch.

Bernie Burkholder, president and CEO of Treasure Bay Casino in Biloxi, was chosen for the honor. He's up there with U.S. Rep. Frank LoBiondo, R-N.J., who helped start a gaming caucus in Congress; T.J. Matthews, president of International Game Technology, the world's largest manufacturer of slot machines; and Mark Brown, tribal council chairman for the Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut, which operates the Mohegan Sun, one of the world's largest casino resorts.

Arcade machines deemed illegal - 2004-01-18
Five people who operated casino-like adult arcades pleaded no contest to misdemeanor charges Friday after a circuit judge ruled that their arcade machines are illegal.

Operators of the casinos argued that their digital slot machines are legal because of the "Chuck E. Cheese" loophole that allows games of skill to pay out small-stakes prizes. Circuit Judge R. Michael Hutcheson ruled Friday that the machines don't meet the exemption because they are played with dollar bills and pay out with gift certificates and cash
