International groups partner to create European casino leader - 2004-01-19
The French group Accor, the Barriere Desseigne family and US private equity firm Colony Capital revealed plans Monday to merge their casino and hotel businesses in an attempt to form a leading player in Europe's gaming sector.

Under the terms of the agreement, the merger will create a company, to be called Groupe Lucien Barriere, which will operate 37 casinos and hold a leading position in the European casino sector, the companies said in a joint statement.

Court drops raps v. Dongail, Escalante - 2004-01-19
The Oriental dismissed "for lack of factual and legal merits" the Salabas-Suganob-Lumoljo kidnap-slay case filed against Senior Insp. Clarence Dongail, former Police Station 2 commander, and casino financier Manuel "Manolo" Escalante.

In a 20-page ruling released Jan. 13, Judge Hector Barillo dismissed the case against the suspects for the abduction and the killing last Aug. 31, 2003 of the victims identified as former Pahanocoy village head Eleuterio "Dodong" Salabas and his companions identified as 2nd Mate Ricardo Suganob, a Maritime instructor from Cagayan de Oro City, and Maximo Lumoljo, Jr., Salabas's nephew, of Misamis Occidental.
