Nonprofit groups seek big win at joint casino night event - 2004-01-21
As football fans all over plan their Super Bowl parties for the big game day, Feb. 1, two local nonprofit organizations will roll out a Las Vegas-style celebration the preceding night.

The Bridge, a crisis center for women and children, and The Cabrini Foundation - which promotes education, health, welfare and spiritual guidance for the needy - have joined forces to host a fund-raising casino night Jan. 31.

"We are organizations with very similar mission statements, so we are making it a joint effort that will allow us both to reap the benefits," said Maggie Jones, business and economic development director at The Bridge.

Casino Jobs Put At 1,400 - 2004-01-21
A DeJope casino would bring as much as $47 million annually in economic activity and create close to 1,400 jobs in Dane County, according to a report published by the Ho-Chunk Nation's coalition.

The report was authored by David J. Ward, president of NorthStar Economics of Madison. The study cost the Ho-Chunk Nation $15,000, he said.

Ward told the study was developed using information from the Ho-Chunk Nation itself, plugged into an econometric model to generate a portrait of the overall impact on the community.
