Voters To Consider Riverboat Casino - 2004-01-21
Voters in Franklin County will head to the polls next week to decide whether to approve a proposal to float a riverboat casino.
Proponents say a riverboat would attract tourists, create jobs and provide property tax relief. Opponents say the negative effects of gambling would outweigh the benefits.
Anette Renaud, executive director of the Franklin County Development Association, said a riverboat casino would generate about $250,000 for the county and $250,000 that would be divided among communities within the northern Iowa county.
