Wife sentenced for ignoring ill husband - 2004-01-21
A Barkhamsted woman has been sentenced to 45 days in prison for leaving her husband, who was dead or dying, in their home so she could visit a casino with her boyfriend.

Nancy Roy admitted in Superior Court on Tuesday that she should have been more attentive before leaving her husband at their home Jan. 11, 2003.

Roy, 45, who left for an overnight gambling trip to the Mohegan Sun Casino and returned to find Robert Roy dead, was sentenced for cruelty to persons.

Casinos lose at numbers game in 2003 - 2004-01-21
The struggling economy finally caught up to Colorado casinos.

The state's casino industry reported a 3 percent revenue fall during 2003 - the first annual dip in the industry's 12-year history.

Casinos in Cripple Creek, Black Hawk and Central City netted $698.3 million in revenues last year, compared with $719.7 million in 2002, according to figures released Tuesday by the Colorado Division of Gaming.
