Casino would improve public safety, human services - 2004-01-21
The Dane County Deputy Sheriff Association not long ago endorsed a "yes" vote on the DeJope casino referendum.

Revenue sharing agreements signed between the Ho-Chunk Nation and Dane County and the city of Madison promise payments of $91 million over the next 13 years if the casino is developed.

As president of the 385-member law enforcement group, I know firsthand what new revenues would mean for public safety and human services programs.

Despite two additional outlets, casino revenue largely flat - 2004-01-21
Despite the addition of two new race track casinos in the past year, the amount of funds state-licensed gambling halls won from players was largely flat in December from a year ago.

Louisiana's 14 riverboat casinos, the downtown casino in New Orleans and three slot-machine casinos at race tracks won $166 million in December, up slightly from $165.3 million in December 2002, state police reported Tuesday.

Last year, there was only one track casino at Delta Downs at Vinton.
