Juco board has no plans to offer casino program declines - 2004-01-21
The state board for two-year colleges does not plan to offer courses related to casino management, although the board for universities is scheduled to vote on approving 2 degree programs next month.

"That's the will and pleasure of the state Legislature and we're not going to go contrary to what our state law is," Wayne Stonecypher, executive director of the State Board for Community and Junior Colleges, said Tuesday.

The Mississippi Gaming Control Act says no schools on publicly owned property and no public school shall teach or train people to be gaming employees.

LOCAL COMMENT: Romulus casino won't hinder tribe's commitment to Detroit - 2004-01-21
In the mid-1980s, many years before any other casino company ever looked towards Detroit, the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians joined with local developers and appointed leaders to launch a campaign to bring gaming jobs, revenues and tourists to Detroit.

And now, the Sault Tribe is also pursuing a casino in Romulus or possibly elsewhere in southeast Michigan. In light of recent concerns over this opportunity, I must reaffirm my tribe's unwavering commitment to the city of Detroit.
