Penn National Gaming Submits Bid for Illinois' Tenth Casino License; Owner of Hollywood Casino Aurora Submits Proposal for Existing Casino Site in Rosemont - 2004-01-22
Penn National Gaming, Inc. revealed today that it has submitted a bid to finance and construct a casino in the greater Chicago area. As disclosed by the Illinois Gaming Board, Penn National was one of seven companies seeking to buy the bankrupt Emerald Casino Inc. and one of three companies proposing to build a casino in Rosemont, Illinois.

Financial details of the bid were not publicly available at this time. It is presently expected that the Illinois Gaming Board will select three final bidders on Feb 23 and that the Illinois Gaming Board will reveal the prevailing bidder on March 15.

Punters hit casino owner's profit - 2004-01-22
Stanley Leisure has reported a 13% decline in earnings after a heavy losing streak at one of its most exclusive casinos.

The UK gaming group, which operates 41 casinos and 640 betting shops, saw its pre-tax profits fall to £21.5m ($39.6m) in the six months to 26 October.

Stanley said a run of big wins for high stake players at its prestigious Crockfords casino, in London's Mayfair, had eaten into the company's earnings.
