New rule prohibits alcohol consumption at gas stations - 2004-01-24
Hidden in Bozeman's new planning and zoning code is a rule forbidding gas stations from selling alcohol meant to be consumed at the store.

The rule has been unofficially enforced for years, which is why one won't find in Bozeman the casino/gas station combinations that dot other Montana communities, or at least the ones that serve alcohol.

But now the rule is in writing and an architectural firm contracted by Town Pump Inc. wants the city to reconsider it.

A calculated gamble - 2004-01-24
Every year, Kansans make millions of trips to casinos just past the state line in Kansas City, Mo. And every year, state officials go hunting for millions of dollars in new revenue for state government.

All of which could develop into a new enterprise: state ownership of a large, Las Vegas-style casino, most likely in Wyandotte County near Kansas Speedway. It's an idea that Gov. Kathleen Sebelius is expected to propose in the coming days and that a leading lawmaker says is gaining support.
