Krewe of Claude rolls today in Slidell - 2004-01-24
The Krewe of Claude will kick off the Slidell Carnival
parade season with a parade today scheduled for 1 p.m.

But this is not Claude's first Carnival celebration of the year.

The krewe met Oct. 25 to crown its king and queen during a banquet held in the ballroom at Bally's Casino in New Orleans.

The king, who will be officially crowned during the krewe's Feb. 21 Carnival ball at the Slidell Municipal Auditorium, is Councilman Ken Burkhalter.

Bernadette Claude will be Queen Claudia.

Golden Ager named JPRD krewe queen - 2004-01-24
Not long ago, I heard from Doris Sevin, longtime publicity chairwoman for the Oakdale Golden Agers, who shared news from her group of busy seniors.

The club members get together on Wednesdays at noon at Oakdale Playground, 650 Wall Blvd., Gretna. Sevin said they "have a lovely meeting hall where we play darts, bingo and shuffleboard before our noon meeting."

The group celebrated its 18th anniversary recently with an "in-house party."

Members also make occasional trips to Boomtown Casino and McDonald's, and recently held their Christmas party at Cannon's Restaurant.
