Blagojevich Fills Spot On Illinois Gaming Board - 2004-01-24
Governor Rod Blagojevich has filled an open spot on the state panel that supervises casinos.

The governor yesterday assigned accountant and business consultant William E. Fanning, of Vernon Hills. He'll replace Illinois Gaming Board member Ira Rogal, who resigned March 19th.

Fanning arrives at a time when the board will be making a crucial decision.

RI Governor, Narragansett chief at odds over casino - 2004-01-24
The governor of Rhode Island and the chief of the Narragansett Indian tribe are still in a skirmish over the tribe's attempt to open a casino.

The tribe has been lobbying for years to develop their own casino. The most recent idea is for one in West Warwick. It would compete with Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun in Connecticut.

Now, tribe chief sachem Matthew Thomas says Governor Don Carcieri has been, (quote) intellectually deceitful" on the issue.
