New Jersey Casinos Hit A Jackpot, Sort Of - 2004-01-24
New Jersey casinos are receiving a $5 million rebate, but it won't come at the expense of the taxpayers. Belt-tightening by casino regulators and an increase in licensing fee revenues have left the state Casino Control Fund with an $8.3 million surplus.

The 12 casinos won't get cash back. They will share $5 million in credits, to be applied against future costs for operating the state Division of Gaming Enforcement and the state Casino Control Commission, officials said Friday.

It was welcome news.

Judge rules for casino - 2004-01-24
A Lane County court refused to hear arguments against a tribal casino near Florence on Friday and rejected a lawsuit challenging the Confederated Tribes of Coos, Lower Umpqua and Siuslaw Indians gaming compact with the state, claiming the lawsuit was incorrectly filed.

In a four-page opinion provided late Friday, Circuit Judge Karsten H. Rasmussen found that the lawsuit,
filed by attorneys representing four members of People Against a Casino Town, was procedurally flawed.
