Kelley asks state to step in vs. casino - 2004-01-24
Renewing a request for help from the governor, Supervisor Paul Kelley said if the state does not intervene in the county's dispute with an Alexander Valley casino other Indian tribes would be encouraged to evade their obligations.

In a letter Thursday to the Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, Kelley called the Dry Creek Band of Pomo Indians a rogue tribe operating an illegal casino that poses public safety risks, including building of a new parking garage.

The tribe, which opened its casino 16 months ago, has said it is operating within the bounds of federal law and its state gaming compact.

Lytton Pomos among tribes in talks with state on sharing funds - 2004-01-24
California's deficit-ridden general fund may soon be receiving an infusion of Indian casino profits, said an attorney for a Sonoma County tribe involved in negotiations with the governor's office.

Whether Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger gets the $500 million earmarked in his budget from the casinos remains to be seen, said Tony Cohen, attorney for the Lytton Band of Pomo Indians, one of seven tribes that opened talks this week with Daniel Kolkey, the governor's lead negotiator.

A centerpiece of Schwarzenegger's recall campaign was demanding that the tribes give the state a "fair share" of their revenue.
