Chicago Heights would be one of 18 south suburban
communities to receive gaming tax revenue if a casino were to open in Country Club Hills, officials said.

City council members have voted to support its neighbor's bid for the state's 10th and final casino license from the Illinois Gaming Board.

Chicago Heights joins Crestwood, Alsip, Blue Island, Calumet Park, Ford Heights, Midlothian, Phoenix, Posen, Riverdale, Robbins, Calumet City, Dixmoor, Dolton, Harvey, Hazel Crest and Worth as those that would divide about 85 percent of the revenues once the casino is fully operational.

Gambling Chairman Outlines Concerns - 2004-01-25
Every month, the Mississippi State Tax Commission reports the amount of money state-licensed casinos won in the previous month. The revenue figures are intended to act as a yardstick for the state's gambling industry. But lately, that yardstick has looked less than reliable. According to the figures from December, the 12 Coast casinos brought in $82.2 million, a 9.5 percent drop over December 2002.

Now with as bad a December as Coast casinos had, you would figure the Mississippi River casinos would be in the same boat. But the 17 casinos on the river reported $121.6 million in revenues for December, a little better than the previous year's $121.5 million.
