Franklin County votes on gambling Tuesday - 2004-01-26
Franklin County residents will vote Tuesday on whether they want a riverboat casino.

Roger and Gayle Burnett of Rockford have been designated as owner-operators of the proposed Landmark Hotel and Casino, which would be located off Interstate 35 near Iowa Highway 3. The Franklin County Development Association would hold the license.

First, voters must approve Tuesday's referendum and the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission must lift its statewide moratorium on new casinos.

Connecticut Casinos Fueled By Mass., R.I. Residents - 2004-01-26
The casino business in Connecticut is flourishing, thanks in mostly to Rhode Island and Massachusetts
residents crossing the border to play.

A new study said Massachusetts and Rhode Island residents make up half of the customers at the Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun resort casinos.

Bay Staters spend roughly $829 million annually at the two Connecticut casinos according to the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth study.

Rhode Islanders spend just over $300 million annually.
