Maloof Family Want Vegas NBA Team - 2004-01-27
Another Las Vegas casino group is rumored to be attempting to bring professional sports to Las Vegas. Last week Eyewitness News found out that the company that operates Caesars Palace wants the Montreal Expos baseball team to become the Las Vegas Expos. Now the Maloof family, which owns the Palms Hotel and Casino, would like the NBA to place a team here as well.

The Maloofs presently own the Sacramento Kings. Over the weekend the Maloofs and the owner of the Dallas Mavericks, billionaire Mark Cuban, said Las Vegas is ready for a professional sports team. The topic is burning up the phone lines of Las Vegas sports radio stations. And the idea is being met with cautious optimism.

Two hundred sixty-one men and women slugged it out Friday and Saturday in the fifth annual Daily Racing Form/NTRA National Handicapping Championship, and the stress was sufficient to fry the brain of the most battle-hardened gambler.
