Ehrlich Bill Would Expand Slot Machines to Two New Locations - 2004-01-27
Governor Ehrlich will request the General Assembly to authorize at least 15,000 slot machines at four racetracks and two other sites.

The off-track venues would be somewhere along the Interstate 95 corridor between Prince George's and Cecil counties.

The governor submitted his plan to leading lawmakers Monday. It would create a commission to award licenses for two "destination locations" with a total of four,000 machines.

Governor proposes 15,500 slot machines - 2004-01-27
Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. presented his new slots proposal today, adding a maximum of 4,000 machines at two yet-to-be-determined "destination locations" along the Interstate 95 corridor to his proposal last year to put 11,500 machines at four racetracks.

The new proposal, which the administration said could generate much more than the $700 million for education predicted at the racetracks alone, flies in the face of a slots study about to be released by House leaders who defeated the governor's slots plan last year in committee.
