Poll finds support for casino to balance state budget - 2004-01-27
Six out of 10 Minnesotans support building a casino in the Twin Cities area to help balance the state budget, according to a Star Tribune Minnesota Poll.

Approximately half of those surveyed strongly support the proposal, the poll published Tuesday showed.

Several casino proposals will be heard next month when the Legislature convenes. Under the different plans, gambling money from a metro-area casino would go toward sports stadiums to scholarships.

State Supreme Court to hear gambling lawsuits - 2004-01-27
Republican legislative leaders hope the Wisconsin Supreme Court will rule that the governor overstepped his authority when he negotiated compacts with American Indian tribes that expand gaming and have no expiration date.

The owners of a Kenosha dog track want even more - a decision that states the Wisconsin constitution outlaws casino gambling altogether.

The court is scheduled to hear arguments in both cases Tuesday, with a multimillion-dollar industry at stake that provides revenue for both the state budget and the tribes.
