Franklin County Approves Riverboat Casino - 2004-01-28
Residents in Franklin County Tuesday voted to approve a proposal to float a riverboat casino.

With almost 40 percent of registered voters participating, 53 percent of the votes were in favor of the referendum.

Gayle and Roger Burnett, of Rockford, want to operate the boat, which would employ up to 600 people.

Under the plan, a riverboat casino would be located off Interstate 35 near Iowa Highway 3.

Georgetown's share of casino tax is eliminated - 2004-01-28
Georgetown has pocketed close to $1 million in revenue sharing from Harrison County's casino-tax funds since Caesars' gambling boat started operating five years ago.

But the gusher of cash just stopped flowing.

The Harrison County Council voted 4-2 late Monday night — with little explanation — to eliminate Georgetown's share of Harrison's annual riverboat riches and to allocate it instead to Floyd County.
