O’Meara files for council - 2004-01-29
Former Plymouth Mayor Michael O’Meara asked the council Thursday to table any agreements on a casino in Plymouth until after the recall election. A day earlier, O’Meara declared his candidacy for Councilman Rich Martin’s position.

O’Meara said he hoped they take into account any agreement with a tribe, “but don’t do anything with it until after this recall election.” He made the request during a public input period of the council meeting. Casino critics Elida Malick and Butch Cranford also requested inaction on the matter until after the recalls are decided.

Georgetown's Share Of Casino Tax Is Eliminated - 2004-01-29
Georgetown has pocketed almost $1 million in earnings sharing from Harrison County's casino-tax funds since Caesars' gambling boat started operating five years ago. But the gusher of cash just stopped flowing.

The Harrison County Council voted 4-2 - with little explanation - to eliminate Georgetown's share of Harrison's yearly riverboat riches and to allocate it instead to Floyd County.

A Harrison County commissioner immediately condemned the action, predicting that the move would give the Indiana General Assembly a fresh reason to make new cuts in the gambling taxes going to Indiana's cash-laden casino counties.
