Exchange rates curb Casino growth - 2004-01-29
Like its larger compatriot Carrefour, French supermarket group Casino closed 2003 with sales a little ahead of the previous year but continued to suffer at the hands of adverse currency exchange rates.

While Carrefour’s post-currency improvement was a creditable 2.9 per cent, Casino’s was a more modest 0.5 per cent, but this was partly due also to the sale of a number of stores in the US which were a poor fit with its portfolio there.

Rainmaker expansion on schedule - 2004-01-29
The $99 million Rainmaker Casino development at Foxwoods is on schedule for an opening around mid-summer, just in time for the peak slot profits months.

Crews have started shipping in pre-made concrete walls for the expansion's 2,100-vehicle garage. Steel for the casino and the Hard Rock Cafe that will be a part of the expansion already has been put up.

"We haven't encountered anything unusual as part of the process," said Robert DeSalvio, Foxwoods' vice president of marketing. "We are looking at a late July, early August opening, and we're very busy working on plans for promotional purposes."
