Historic Las Vegas hotel/casino to be revived - 2004-01-30
The Moulin Rouge Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, destroyed in a fire last May, has been sold for USD12.1 million.
The buyer, Moulin Rouge Development Corp, expects to spend an additional $200 million reviving the property.
Opened in 1955, the Moulin Rouge holds a special place in the history of Las Vegas as the city's first racially integrated casino.
It played host to such stars as Sammy Davis Junior and other African American entertainers who were not permitted to stay at the properties they performed at on the Las Vegas ‘Strip’.
