Feds ask court to drop casino suit - 2004-01-30
The US Attorney's office is requesting the dismissal of the Kansas attorney general's complaint against the Wyandotte casino in downtown Kansas City, Kan.

According to the federal prosecutor's motion, filed Monday in U.S. District Court in Topeka, Kan., the court has no jurisdiction over the case.

"This court lacks jurisdiction over plaintiff's claims ... as plaintiff has failed to join an indispensable party, the Wyandotte Tribe of Oklahoma, which is immune from suit," part of the motion stated. It was filed by Eric Melgren, U.S. attorney in Kansas.

Quick and Dirty: A notebook of news and politics - 2004-01-30
Last week, the Las Vegas City Council gave the go ahead--and $30,000--to Israeli artist Yaacov Agam to create a model for a proposed sculpture park downtown. When finished, the sculpture set, consisting of 45 or more 18-foot stainless steel columns, will stretch along Boulder Avenue between Main Street and Casino Center Boulevard.

Now, it's up to the Las Vegas Arts District Neighborhood Association to raise from private donors the approximate $1.5 million needed to build the project.
