Former Casino Boss Shapes New N.Y. Casino - 2004-01-04
The chart exhibits a hotel and a massive entertainment complex springing up on the 52 acres next to St. Mary's of the Cataract Church. The buildings are part of the Seneca Niagara Casino's development plan over the next five years. St. Mary's isn't.

"The church stays," Mickey Brown, president and CEO of the Seneca Niagara Casino, said with a grin in a conference room behind his office. "God stays. He's exempt."

The buildings rise in several frames along the chart, and some are moving closer to reality: Construction on a 26-story, 600-room hotel nearby will begin in April.

Casino Jobs Draw Crowds - 2004-01-04
Economists and Wall Street veterans say the long-sluggish economy is on the rise. Yet hundreds of Tampa Bay residents woke up before sunrise Saturday to apply for jobs with the new Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Tampa, revealing that the economy has a way to go before it's robust again.

Donna Roeder arrived at the Tampa Convention Center, where she works at the concierge desk, 20 minutes before 7 Saturday morning. A line of job seekers was waiting for her - over two hours before the daylong job fair started. "You know, they say the economy is on the incline," said Herman Broxton, a career consultant with Tampa Bay WorkForce Alliance. "But this just shows you people are still looking for work."
