Armed duo hijack car outside hotel - 2004-01-05
A man driving into a Peppermill Hotel-Casino parking garage Sunday morning was confronted by two armed men who went into his car and forced him to drive to another location where they took his wallet, car stereo and car keys, Reno police said.

One of the suspects got into the front seat of the vehicle armed with a knife and the other got into a rear seat about 9:15 a.m., police said. The victim drove to the area of Grove and Lymbery streets but was told to continue to Virginia Lake.

Locally trained boxer has shot at world title - 2004-01-05
Locally trained fighter Kassim Ouma came closer to his dream of superstardom when he guaranteed himself a world title shot with an astonishing 11-round knockout over Colombian J.C. Candelo on Saturday night from Foxwoods Casino in Connecticut.

Ouma dominated Candelo from start to finish in the junior middleweight bout, leading big on all three judges scorecards before finishing Candelo just 15 seconds into the 11th round with a blistering barrage of punches. The fight was a mandatory eliminator for the IBF junior-middleweight title held by Winky Wright, who is scheduled to meet WBA-WBC champion Shane Mosely in a unification bout on March 13.
