More Money To Be Squeezed From Booming Indian Casinos - 2004-01-05
Confronted with a large state deficit, and confined by his promises not to increase taxes, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is supposed to make a high-stakes play this month to squeeze more money for the state from thriving Indian casinos.

That follows a recall campaign in which Schwarzenegger attacked the tribes as one of the state's top special-interest campaign contributors and promised to get more cash out of them in his first 100 days. Since then the political rhetoric has been toned down, but the goal remains the same.

Park Place to become Caesar's - 2004-01-05
Park Place Entertainment will be called Caesar's Entertainment, Inc., when the New York Stock Exchange rings its opening bell Tuesday morning. The company, which presently trades under the ticker symbol PPE, will begin trading under CZR.

In Tunica, Park Place's operations include Bally's Casino-Tunica and Grand Casino Tunica, which combine to employ about 4057 people. It is the 13th largest employer in the Memphis area, according to Memphis Business Journal's 2004 Book of Lists.
