Old map connects Caesars, Harrison history - 2004-01-06
Fred Griffin had a feeling that if he gave Caesars Indiana a crumbling old map that he'd kept for 74 years, the casino might do something to preserve it.
He was right. In fact, the casino ended up spending $10,000 to restore and frame the 1860 map of Harrison County.
And yesterday, in a brief presentation at the Old Capitol in downtown Corydon, Caesars executives gave the map to the people of Harrison County — in honor of Griffin, the longtime county historian.
Caesars' general manager, Barry Morris, also gave the county a plaque to accompany the document. It explains that Griffin donated the map and that the casino restored it for the community.
