A former Fowler casino that closed down less than a year after it opened, and has been vacant for seven years, will reopen Sunday as The Vineyard Worship Centre Church.

More than 1,300 worshipers and guests are expected to be present for the 3 p.m. grand opening rebirth of the former Vineyard Casino, said Senior Pastor Rod Haro.

Vineyard Worship Center Church is located at 2830 E. Manning Avenue, on the southern boundary of the city of Fowler and barely 100 yards from Freeway 99.

Foster Won't Sign DeSoto Parish Casino Bill - 2004-01-06
Gov. Mike Foster said Tuesday that he will leave office without signing a contract that would permit the Jena Choctaw band of Indians to build a casino in DeSoto Parish.

Foster said in a written statement there is not enough time to work out an agreement before he leaves office. He says he'll leave all decisions on the topic to incoming governor Kathleen Blanco, who will replace Foster on Monday.

At issue was whether Foster would approve the tribe taking 40 acres in Logansport into trust as tribal land for a future casino. The U.S. Department of the Interior approved Logansport as a potential site on Dec. 24, leaving the next move up to Foster.
