Suit filed by police juror-elect to keep casino job - 2004-01-07
A recently elected member of the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury has filed suit against the state ethics board in an effort to hold office withought losing his job at the casino.
Kevin Guidry, who was elected in October, is scheduled to take office on Monday. But the ethics board ruled in November that Guidry cannot serve his post as long as he works at a casino.
State law prohibits an elected official from doing business with a riverboat casino except as a patron, the board said in its opinion. After the ruling, the Isle of Capri said Guidry would be fired if he took office. Guidry has a marketing job with the casino.
