Casino boat operator looking for buyer - 2004-01-08
A bankrupt gambling cruise operation owned by SunCruz Casinos is up for sale.

Ventures LLC operates SunCruz VII in Little River and has filed for bankruptcy. SunCruz filed for bankruptcy separately in 2001.

"We're at the point where we're ready to transfer the assets to a new buyer," said Michael Hlavsa, chief executive of SunCruz Casinos.

If the company sells the business and assets jointly, the boat would be able to continue operating, despite Horry County's moratorium on new casino boats, County Councilman Harold Worley said.

D'Iberville casino plan gets environmental OK - 2004-01-08
Developers of the proposed Royal D'Iberville Hotel and Casino have environmental approval for the project and can now go on with their plans.

It took three years for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to finish the 1,100-page environmental impact statement. The study revealed that in all but one instance a casino development would have minimal or no impact on the environment.

"This is a vindication for the leaders of D'Iberville that they were doing a right thing in pursuing a casino," said Michael Cavanaugh, a city attorney.
