Legislative panel recommends status quo for casino industry - 2004-01-08
A legislative committee on Tuesday advised keeping
the status quo for Missouri's casino industry -- no tax raises and no repeal of the exclusive $500 loss limit for gamblers.

The recommendations of the Republican-led Joint Committee on Gaming and Wagering could indicate another chilly reception for some of Democratic Gov. Bob Holden's legislative proposals.

Like last year, Holden probably will recommend a repeal of the loss limit and an increase in casino taxes as part of his budget to be submitted to legislators later this month, Holden spokeswoman Mary Still said.

Casino Approved For Iowa Casino License - 2004-01-08
A Rockford couple has been given the green light as owner/operators of a planned $60 million casino complex to be situated west of Interstate 35 on Hwy. 3, six miles west of Hampton.

"Roger and Gayle Burnett, owners of Grand Casino Inc., approached the Franklin County Board of Supervisors two weeks ago about wanting to develop a casino in the county, assuming a gambling referendum passes muster by voters in the county on Jan. 27, and assuming the Iowa Legislature lifts a moratorium for more gambling licenses to be issued in the state.

"The Franklin County Development Association has been designed as the owner of the gambling license for the county.
