Hi-tech casino chips will track gamblers - 2004-01-08
Technology that has been used to examine the shopping habits of supermarket customers will soon be introduced to casinos.

An American company is crafting playing chips that will beam an identification code to sensors in gaming houses. Although they will be more expensive than other chips, they should help casino owners to fight counterfeiting and theft and to monitor gamblers more closely. Known as "RFID", Radio Frequency Identification, the technology has already been used in the UK by supermarkets, including Tesco and Marks & Spencer, for tracking items such as razor blades and men's suits between the warehouse and the store.

AMERICAN INDIAN GAMING: Menominee Nation plans casino at Kenosha dog track - 2004-01-08
The proprietors of a Kenosha dog track will still pursue a lawsuit claiming the state constitution bans casino-style gambling, despite reaching an agreement to sell the facility for $40.5 million to an American Indian tribe that plans to open a casino there.

Roy Berger, executive vice president of Dairyland Greyhound Park, acknowledged Wednesday that pursuing the court action that could overturn gaming statewide could jeopardize the project.

A spokeswoman for the Menominee Nation also said the lawsuit could threaten the tribe's plans, but said leaders were not concerned it would succeed.
