D'Iberville casino awaiting its permit - 2004-01-09
It will be no less than "a couple of weeks" before the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers issues a permit for the Royal D'Iberville Hotel and Casino, but D'Iberville officials are confident the city will get authorization for the $150 million project.

Jan Shelby, a spokeswoman for the corps' Mobile district, said comments on the casino project need to be included and considered before the permit is issued.

D'Iberville officials said they expect to get a permit from the corps, because the final version of an environmental impact statement found that the casino development should not have a significant impact on natural resources.

Dunedin venue could form part of casino monopoly - 2004-01-09
If Sky City Entertainment was successful in a bid to acquire Aspinall New Zealand's 41% share of Christchurch Casino it would effectively get control of Dunedin Casino.

Aspinall has the five-year casino licence to operate Dunedin Casino and any Christchurch Casino buyer would gain its 14% of Dunedin Casino - and being the licence holder it would be able to control its operation and takeover management.

Dunedin Casino chairman Hanlin Johnstone claims a purchase by Sky City would lead to a monopoly situation.
