FBI, casino veteran named Nevada public safety director - 2004-01-09
Gov. Kenny Guinn on Thursday appointed a former FBI agent and casino executive as Nevada’s new public safety director.

George Togliatti will manage nine Nevada agencies, including the highway patrol, emergency management, parole and probation, investigations, state fire marshal and traffic safety.

A former supervisory agent, Togliatti, 57, spent more than 23 years with the FBI. He managed organized crime and drug units in Las Vegas and served as the white-collar crime supervisor.

300-room hotel and casino proposed in Winchester - 2004-01-09
Several Winchester residents reacted skeptically to the Soboba tribe's plans to construct a 300-room hotel and casino in their sleepy, rural town, while others at an informational meeting Thursday said they looked forward to the entertainment and work opportunities the project would bring.

Members of the Winchester Homeowner's Association asked tribal leaders to speak at the meeting to give residents a more clear explanation of what the plans are, said former association president David Ledbetter.

About 130 people, with some standing in the aisles, crowded a small room at the Domenigoni Community Center to hear Tribal Chairman Robert Salgado's brief presentation and ask questions.
