BLACK CASINO OWNER TO TOOT HIS OWN HORN: Trumpet Awards to take place on TBS. - 2004-02-10
The first African AMerican owner of a national casino company, Don H. Barden, will host the second anniversary celebration and 2004 Trumpet Award show, February 19-21, 2004.

In honor of Fitzgeralds Casino's second year under new ownership, Barden will host a star studded weekend of celebrations along with recognizing the achievements of African Americans during Black History month and host a private telecast of the prestigious 2004 Trumpet Awards presented by Turner Broadcasting/TBS.

Casino Bill Would Help Home - 2004-02-10
A local lawmaker wants a piece of the state's profits
from casino slot machines to pay for services at the Rocky Hill Veterans Home and Hospital. State Rep. Tony Guerrera, D-Rocky Hill, has proposed a bill that would annually take $500,000 from the Mashantucket Pequot and Mohegan grant fund to pay for expanded rehabilitation programs and job training services at the facility.

"I can't see why anybody wouldn't want to support this. Our veterans need better programs, especially for the men and women fighting right now for our freedom who will come home," Guerrera said..
