R.I. considers incentives to help casino - 2004-02-10
The city would offer tax-exempt bonds and additional financial incentives to help the Rock Island Boatworks move the Casino Rock Island, if aldermen authorize a development agreement for the $92 million project.

The city would extend the Rock Island Enterprise Zone to include the site near Interstate 280 and Illinois 92 and create two special-development taxing districts on the casino. The city also would expedite zoning and permit approval, under terms of the proposed agreement the council reviewed at a study session Monday.

Limousines, hotel suites the size of a median-priced San Diego house and bowling alleys are among the benefits that Las Vegas high rollers get from casinos, NBC 7/39 reported.

Casinos count on the fact that these patrons often lose enough money to cover the casino's expenses.

“High-roller suites are kept for high rollers, for people whose casino play warrants that type of treatment," said Gordon Absher of the Mandalay Bay Hotel.
