AG Wants Commission To Oversee Gambling - 2004-02-10
If voters approve a casino in Rhode Island, the industry would be overseen by the attorney general's office and regulated by an independent state agency under a bill announced Monday by Attorney General Patrick Lynch. Lynch said the proposed five-member Gaming Control Commission would approve licenses and oversee the gambling industry.
The legislation is sponsored by state Sen. Frank Caprio, D-Providence, and Reps. Peter Kilmartin, D-Pawtucket, and Joseph McNamara, D-Warwick. Proponents of a casino hope this year they'll be successful in putting the question on the ballot.
