Surf's Frank Dougherty honored by ACCEA - 2004-02-10
On Friday, February 6th the Atlantic County Council of Education Associations organized an Overnight Workshop at the Atlantic City Hilton Casino and Hotel. Michelle Yacopcic, the President of the ACCEA, presented Frank Dougherty, the Atlantic City Surf Assistant Group Sales Director and former educator, with the ACCEA 1st Annual Friend of Education Award.

Frank Dougherty is responsible for the partnership between the Atlantic City Surf and the ACCEA. He is the founder of the Pro-Literacy program whereby students read books in exchange for tickets to the Surf games and complimentary tee shits.

Town, parish fight over casino - 2004-02-10
This city wants a much larger share of the expected revenue from the new Evangeline Downs Racetrack and Casino.

Presently, 58 percent of 4 percent of Evangeline Downs' profits goes to the St. Landry Parish council.

"They were the governing authority at that time. Now we are the governing authority," said Mayor Anna Simmons, referring to Opelousas' annexation of Evangeline Downs.

"We remain the governing authority, not the city," Parish President Don Menard countered. "The racetrack was sold to the public with the understanding that the parish would get the funding to help us better our roads."
