Ho-Chunk won't try second time - 2004-02-10
If Dane County residents vote next week against converting the DeJope bingo hall into a casino, Ho-Chunk Nation officials say they will not come back for a second attempt.

"We're not really ready to go where we're not wanted," Rebecca Weise, attorney general for the Ho-Chunk Nation, told The Capital Times editorial board on Monday.

Ho-Chunk Nation President George Lewis agreed.

Ho-Chunk feel betrayed - 2004-02-10
The Ho-Chunk Nation's leaders feel "betrayed" by Madison Mayor Dave Cieslewicz after the mayor criticized the nation for not presenting documentation to show a casino revenue-sharing agreement between the nation and the city can't be annulled by future Ho-Chunk leaders.

Cieslewicz also did a new radio ad for No Dane Casino, raising the ire of the nation's leaders, who claimed the mayor promised he wouldn't publicly come out against the casino.
